Worry is the quiet tax we pay for trying to govern a world we were never handed the controls to. Jesus points at the birds and the flowers, and He is not being sentimental. He is offering you a way out.

"Who has despised the day of small things?" The honest answer is: most of us, most of the time. We keep waiting for the big moment and walk straight past the small obedience that was the big moment in disguise.

Contentment is not the reward for finally getting what you wanted. It is a secret to be learned, and it can be learned in a prison cell as readily as in a palace.

We have grown wonderfully familiar with God and quietly forgotten that He is holy. Recovering the fear of the Lord is not the death of intimacy, it is the beginning of wisdom.

Unforgiveness feels like a grip you keep on the one who hurt you. In truth it is a cell you build around yourself, and the door has been unlocked from the inside all along.

The most decisive war of your life is not fought in public. It is fought in the quiet of your own thoughts, and it is won or lost by what you allow to live there.

You may believe your brokenness has disqualified you. Look again at the miracle. In the hands of Jesus, it was only after the bread was broken that it fed the multitude.

God rarely tests us with the dramatic. He tests us with the small, repeated, unwitnessed choice, because that is where a life is actually built.

The names people gave you have a strange power to become the walls you live inside. But God has a habit of calling people by who they are becoming, not by what they have been.

Not every silence is abandonment. Some of the deepest work God ever does in a life is done where no one, sometimes not even you, can see it.
