Is it wrong to date or marry someone who isn't a Christian?
By Matthew (Tolu) Olowoyeye
Scripture2 Corinthians 6:14
Scripture is direct here, and it is for our good: believers are urged not to be “unequally yoked” with unbelievers. Marriage joins two lives at the deepest level, and when the most important thing in your life — your faith — is not shared, you build your home on a fault line. What you treasure most, you cannot truly share. This is not snobbery; it is realism about how marriage works. Your faith will shape your money, your children, your priorities, your suffering, and your hope. A spouse who does not share it will, gently or not, pull in another direction, and the strain usually falls on the believer's walk with God. If you are already in such a relationship, do not act harshly or in pride. Seek wise counsel, be honest about the cost, and above all keep Christ first. Many have made painful but faithful decisions here and found God's grace more than sufficient. Scripture: — “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers.” Take this step: If you are dating, talk honestly and early about faith, and bring the relationship under the counsel of a mature believer before your heart outruns your wisdom.
Prayer
Father, thank You for meeting me in my questions. Give me wisdom to understand Your truth, faith to trust You where I cannot yet see, and grace to walk it out today. Anchor my heart in 2 Corinthians 6:14. In Jesus' name, amen.
