How do I pray when I don't know what to say?
By Matthew (Tolu) Olowoyeye
ScriptureRomans 8:26
You are in good company — the disciples asked Jesus the very same thing, and He did not rebuke them; He taught them. Prayer is not performance, and God is not grading your vocabulary. He is your Father, and the simplest honest words reach Him. Use the pattern Jesus gave as a frame: praise God for who He is, submit to His will, ask for daily needs, confess sin and forgive others, and ask for protection. The Psalms are another gift — pray them aloud when your own words run dry; they give voice to joy, grief, fear, and hope. And remember, when you cannot find words at all, the Spirit Himself intercedes for you. A wordless groan offered in faith is heard as clearly as the most eloquent prayer. Scripture: — “The Spirit also helpeth our infirmities... the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Take this step: Try praying one short Psalm a day this week (start with , 51, 103). Let its words become your words until your own begin to flow.
Prayer
Father, thank You for meeting me in my questions. Give me wisdom to understand Your truth, faith to trust You where I cannot yet see, and grace to walk it out today. Anchor my heart in Romans 8:26. In Jesus' name, amen.
