How do I apply the Bible to my everyday decisions?
By Matthew (Tolu) Olowoyeye
ScriptureJames 1:22
Begin by reading for the author's intended meaning, not for a verse that happens to fit your situation. Ask what the passage meant to its first readers; the timeless principle lives there, and that principle is what carries over to you. Most of God's will is already revealed — be honest, be pure, forgive, work diligently, love your neighbour. We often agonise over decisions God has left to wisdom while ignoring commands He has made plain. Obey what is clear, and clarity for the unclear usually follows. For specific choices, bring Scripture together with prayer, godly counsel, and circumstances, and ask not merely “Is this allowed?” but “Is this wise? Does it look like Jesus? Will it help me love God and others more?” Scripture: — “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” Take this step: Before a decision this week, find one biblical principle that touches it, pray over it, and ask one wise believer. Then act — obedience grows clarity.
Prayer
Father, thank You for meeting me in my questions. Give me wisdom to understand Your truth, faith to trust You where I cannot yet see, and grace to walk it out today. Anchor my heart in James 1:22. In Jesus' name, amen.
