Do I really need to go to church, or can I follow God on my own?
By Matthew (Tolu) Olowoyeye
ScriptureHebrews 10:25
You can be saved without church, but you cannot grow healthy without it — and the New Testament never imagines a solo Christian. From the very first, believers devoted themselves to gathering, teaching, breaking bread, and prayer together. The Christian life is designed to be lived in family, not isolation. The church is not a building or an event; it is a body. A hand severed from the body may look fine for a moment, but it cannot live or function alone. You need others' gifts, encouragement, correction, and love — and they need yours. Watching sermons online is a supplement, never a substitute, for being known and serving in person. Yes, the church is full of imperfect people — including you and me — and it will sometimes disappoint. But it is the family God has chosen, and He intends to grow you precisely through the friction and grace of real relationships. Scripture: — “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together... but exhorting one another.” Take this step: If you are not committed to a local church, visit one this week with the aim of belonging, not just attending — and look for one way to serve, not only to receive.
Prayer
Father, thank You for meeting me in my questions. Give me wisdom to understand Your truth, faith to trust You where I cannot yet see, and grace to walk it out today. Anchor my heart in Hebrews 10:25. In Jesus' name, amen.
