Philippians 4:8
You would never eat something rotten and expect to feel great. But you scroll, watch and listen to whatever the feed serves up all day and wonder why your mind feels anxious, cynical and never satisfied. What goes in shapes what comes out.
Nobody would knowingly eat food that had gone off and then expect to feel healthy. We understand that with our bodies, what you put in affects how you feel and function. Somehow we forget the exact same thing is true of our minds. Every day you feed your mind a constant stream of content: videos, feeds, songs, group chats, shows, comments. And whether you notice it or not, all of it is shaping how you think, what you want, how you feel about yourself, and even how you see God.
Paul gives a filter worth taping to your mirror: "whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure... meditate on these things" (). Notice he is not just talking about avoiding obviously bad stuff. He is talking about deliberately choosing what you dwell on, actively feeding your mind things that are true, good and pure, instead of just consuming whatever the algorithm decides to serve you next.
Real talk: You are not just passively watching your feed. Your feed is quietly building your worldview, your insecurities and your cravings, one video at a time. What you scroll past for hours does not leave you unchanged.
Here is the uncomfortable question: if you feel more anxious, more cynical, more insecure or more discontented than you used to, is it possible some of that is simply what you have been feeding yourself? Hours of highlight reels breed comparison. A diet of outrage breeds anger. Endless noise breeds a mind that cannot be still. None of it is neutral. You really do become, over time, whatever you keep feeding your mind.
The good news is that this works in reverse too. Start feeding your mind things that are true and good, Scripture, worship, honest encouragement, real conversation, silence, and slowly your inner world changes to match. You are not stuck with whatever the feed made you. You can change the diet.
Try this this week: Audit one thing you consume a lot that leaves you feeling worse, and swap it for something true, good or pure, even for a few days. Notice the difference in your mind.
Pray this: God, help me pay attention to what I am feeding my mind. Give me the wisdom to filter what goes in and the discipline to dwell on what is true and good. Change my inner world by changing my diet. Amen.
