1 Peter 5:7
It is 1am and your brain is running through every worst-case scenario on a loop. You are not weak and you are not broken. But you are carrying something you were never meant to carry alone.
You know the feeling. The day is over, the lights are off, and suddenly your brain decides now is the perfect time to replay everything you said wrong, everything that could go wrong tomorrow, and every problem you cannot fix at this hour. Anxiety does not care that you have school in the morning. It just keeps running.
The Bible does not tell you to pretend you are fine. It tells you where to put the weight. Peter writes it simply: "casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you" (). Look at both halves of that. Casting all your care, not some of it, not the small stuff, all of it. And the reason, because He cares for you. Not because He is obligated. Because He actually, genuinely cares what is keeping you up.
Real talk: Worrying about something is not the same as doing something about it. Most of the things you lie awake fearing never happen, and the ones that do, you handle better rested than exhausted.
The word "casting" is active. It is a decision, not a feeling. You will not always feel your anxiety lift the moment you pray, and that is normal. But you can still make the choice to hand it over, to say, out loud, "God, I cannot carry this tonight, and You have not asked me to." Then breathe. He is awake anyway.
Try this this week: Before bed, write down the three things worrying you most, then pray over the list and physically close the notebook. It is a small picture of handing them over, and a signal to your brain that they are dealt with for now.
Pray this: God, my mind will not switch off and I am tired. I am casting my worry onto You right now, because You care about me. Please quiet my thoughts and help me rest. Amen.
If anxiety is a constant thing for you, please talk to a trusted adult, a parent, or your GP, you do not have to figure this out on your own.
