Too Young to Matter Is a Lie

1 Timothy 4:12

You keep being told your life starts later — after school, after uni, after you grow up. God has a habit of ignoring that timeline completely. He has never once thought you were too young to be used.

Somewhere along the way you probably absorbed the idea that you are in a waiting room. That real life, real influence, real usefulness to God all start once you are older, more qualified, more sorted. So you park your faith and your gifts on a shelf marked "later." Paul, writing to a young leader named Timothy, blows that idea apart in one sentence: "Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers" ().

Read that again. Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, and that includes you looking down on yourself. Instead, be an example. Not one day. Now. In how you speak, how you treat people, what you believe, how you live. Paul does not tell Timothy to wait until he is impressive. He tells him to lead where he is.

Real talk: God's track record is full of young people. David was a teenager with a sling. Jeremiah thought he was too young and God told him to stop saying that. Mary was probably a teenager when she carried the Saviour of the world.

The lie that you are too young to matter is convenient, because it lets you off the hook. If real life starts later, you do not have to take this season seriously. But you do not get these years back. The habits you build now, the character you form now, the faith you actually own now, that is not the warm-up. It is the foundation everything else gets built on.

You are not too young for God to use. You never were. The only question is whether you will believe the lie and wait, or believe the Word and start.

Try this this week: Pick one area, kindness, honesty, faith, self-control, and be a deliberate example in it this week. Do not wait to be older to start living like it matters.

Pray this: God, I am done believing I am too young to matter to You. Use me now, where I am, with what I have. Help me be an example even in this season. I am available. Amen.
