When God Calls You to Earn While You Build

"And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.",

Not every called person will be fully supported by a congregation from day one. Not every anointed minister should be. Paul, apostle, theologian, church planter, made tents. Not reluctantly, not as a temporary stopgap, but as a deliberate Kingdom strategy.

Insight Tent-making protected Paul's gospel. He could say to the Corinthians: "I preached the gospel of God to you freely" (2 ). No one could accuse him of preaching for money. His financial independence was an apologetic for the message he carried.

There is a generation of ministers who feel the shame of having a second job. They apologise for it. They hide it. But Paul wore it openly. "These hands have ministered unto my necessities," he told the Ephesian elders (). The tentmaker's hands and the apostle's hands were the same hands.

Insight Bivocational ministry is not a lower calling, it is a different assignment. Laud AI, Laud Travels, writing, business, when led by the Spirit, these are not distractions from ministry. They are the tent shop that funds it, protects it, and gives it credibility in the marketplace.

The danger Paul guarded against was not having a job. It was allowing financial dependency to compromise the message. If you must preach it carefully because of who pays for it, it is no longer the gospel. Tent-making keeps you free.

Prayer Lord, sanctify every aspect of my work. Whether in pulpit or in marketplace, let both serve Your purposes. Give me Paul's clarity, that my hands serve my mission, and my mission is never for sale. Let my work be worship and my worship produce work. Amen.
