The Anointing That Breaks the Yoke
Personal LifeIsaiah 10:27
The Power and Purpose of the Holy Spirit
By Matthew (Tolu) Olowoyeye
"And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.",
The yoke is a powerful image. In the ancient world, a yoke was a wooden instrument placed across the neck of an ox to control it, to direct its strength for another's purposes. Isaiah uses it to describe Assyrian domination over Israel. But the principle it articulates is timeless: there are burdens and yokes that no human effort can remove. Only the anointing breaks them.
Insight The anointing in Scripture is the presence and empowerment of the Holy Spirit on a person for a specific purpose. It is not a skill. It is not charisma. It is not eloquence. It is the divine enabling that makes ordinary ministry extraordinary, not in volume, not in visibility, but in lasting effect. The word that breaks the addiction. The prayer that unlocks the grief. The sermon that changes a life permanently.
Paul wrote to Corinth: "And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God" (). He could have preached eloquently. He chose to preach dependently, and the demonstration came.
Insight The anointing is cultivated in secret before it is displayed in public. What flows from you publicly is what you carry privately. The minister who spends no time in prayer, no time in the Word, no time waiting on God will bring professional competence to the pulpit and leave the yokes unbroken. The minister who carries the private anointing will speak, and things will break.
Do not minister from your own resources. Draw from what God fills you with. The yoke-breaking is His work. Stay close to the Source.
Prayer Lord, anoint me fresh. Not for platform, for power. Not for recognition, for results that last. Let the anointing I carry in private be the force that breaks yokes in public. I refuse to minister from my own resources. I depend entirely on the Holy Spirit. Amen.
