Romans 12:1

Complete Consecration and the Life That Holds Nothing Back

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.",

Paul calls total consecration "reasonable service", the Greek is logiken latreian, logical worship. Not extraordinary. Not for spiritual elites. Not for those who feel it emotionally. Reasonable. Expected. The logical response to the eleven chapters of Gospel that precede it. If -11 is what God has done for you, then is simply the reasonable response: everything.

Insight The problem with living sacrifices is that they can crawl off the altar. A dead sacrifice stays put. A living sacrifice has to keep choosing to remain surrendered. Every morning. Every decision. Every ambition. Every relationship. The altar is not a once-for-all event, it is a daily, chosen, persistent posture of surrender.

God is not asking for your best effort. He is asking for your whole self. The altar requires what you love most, what you have been holding in reserve, what you thought was yours to keep. Abraham's altar required Isaac, not a substitute, not something cheaper. The thing he loved most. That is the logic of consecration.

Insight "Holy, acceptable unto God." The word "acceptable" carries the sense of God's evaluation and approval. Not everything we offer God is actually what He is looking for. External religion without internal surrender is not acceptable. The altar of surrender is where form becomes substance, where the Sunday offering becomes the Monday life.

What is still on the altar? What have you brought to the edge of consecration and then carried home again? The fire is waiting. The altar is waiting. So is God.

Prayer Lord, I present myself to You, not the version I want You to see, but all of me. Everything I have withheld. Everything I have kept in reserve. I lay it down. Consume what needs to be consumed. Purify what can be refined. I am Yours. Entirely. Amen.
