For the Persecuted Church
Remember the prisoners as if chained with them, and those who are mistreated
By Matthew (Tolu) Olowoyeye
Father, we remember today the members of Your family who are suffering for the name of Jesus, those imprisoned, threatened, driven from their homes, cut off from work and family, and even facing death, simply for following You. They are our brothers and our sisters, and we will not forget them. As Your Word commands, we remember them as though we ourselves were in chains.
We pray for their protection. Cover them, hide them, deliver them where it is Your will. Strengthen the ones who cannot escape their circumstances. Give them a courage that does not come from themselves and a peace that makes no earthly sense. Let them know, in the darkest cell and the loneliest hour, that they are not forgotten by You or by us.
We ask that You would meet their needs, food, shelter, safety for their children, comfort for their grief. And astonishingly, Lord, we pray for the joy You have so often given Your persecuted people, the joy that has left even their captors amazed. Let their faith shine so brightly in the darkness that it draws others to You.
And we pray for their persecutors, as You taught us, that even those who oppose them might encounter You, as Saul once did on the Damascus road. Amen.
We agree together for the persecuted Church, in the name of Jesus.
