For the Broken-hearted

Father, we come to You for those whose hearts are broken today, the grieving, the bereaved, those mourning a loss the world has already moved past, and those carrying a private ache that no one around them can see. Your Word promises that You are near to the broken-hearted. We ask You to be near to them now, in a way they can feel.

We thank You that You are the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, the One who comforts us in all our troubles. We do not ask You to rush their grief or to make them pretend they are fine. We ask that You would sit with them in it, that You would be the presence in the room when everyone else has gone, and that You would catch the tears that fall in the night.

For those grieving someone they have lost, hold them. For those whose hearts are broken by disappointment, betrayal or a hope deferred, tend the wound gently and in time make them whole. Bind up what has been broken. Give them, in Your kindness, the strength to face the next day, and slowly restore joy where there has only been sorrow.

Remind them that mourning does not last forever, and that You have promised a morning of comfort after the long night. Amen.
