How do I find the right church?
By Matthew (Tolu) Olowoyeye
ScriptureActs 2:42
Begin with the essentials, not the extras. The right church is first of all a faithful one: it teaches the Bible as God's Word, holds to the core truths of the gospel, lifts up Jesus, and takes prayer, worship, and the sacraments seriously. Get those right before you weigh anything else. Then look for health and love. Is the leadership humble and accountable? Are people growing, serving, and caring for one another and their community? A church does not need to be large, polished, or trendy to be healthy. Beware of choosing a church the way you choose entertainment — by style and preference alone. Finally, remember you are looking for a family to join and serve, not a service to consume. No church is perfect, so look for one where you can grow, give your gifts, and be known — then commit, rather than endlessly shopping. Scripture: — “They continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” Take this step: Visit two or three churches over the next month. Use one simple checklist — sound teaching, genuine love, healthy leadership, room to serve — and then commit to one.
Prayer
Father, thank You for meeting me in my questions. Give me wisdom to understand Your truth, faith to trust You where I cannot yet see, and grace to walk it out today. Anchor my heart in Acts 2:42. In Jesus' name, amen.
