How do I share my faith with a coworker?

By Matthew (Tolu) Olowoyeye

Scripture

1 Peter 3:15

Sharing your faith with a coworker can feel like walking a tightrope, but it doesn't have to be. Start by building a genuine relationship with them. Show interest in their life, listen attentively, and be a good friend. Your actions and character speak volumes before you ever say a word about Jesus. Let your life consistently reflect His love, joy, and peace in your daily interactions. People are often drawn to authentic kindness and integrity.

When the opportunity arises naturally, perhaps through a conversation about life's challenges or meaning, you can share a brief, personal testimony. Focus on what God has done for you and how He brings hope and purpose to your life, avoiding Christian jargon. It's about planting seeds, not forcing a harvest. Remember, the Holy Spirit is the one who convicts hearts, not your eloquent words. Your role is simply to be a willing vessel and an available witness.

Be sensitive to their responses and respectful of their boundaries. Not every conversation needs to be an in-depth theological discussion. Sometimes, it's simply offering to pray for them when they share a struggle, inviting them to a low-pressure church event, or even sharing a helpful Christian resource. The goal is to point them to Jesus in a way that is natural and honors their dignity, understanding that faith is a journey.

Always pray for your coworker. Ask God to open their heart, to give you wisdom, and to create opportunities for you to share His truth with love and grace. Trust that God is already at work in their life, and He will guide you in how and when to speak. Remember : "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others."

Prayer

Lord, grant me wisdom and courage to share Your love with my coworker. Help me to be a faithful witness through my words and actions, always pointing them to You with grace and truth. In Jesus' name, amen.
