Colossians 2:6-7
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith… abounding in it with thanksgiving.

We close this six-month journey where it began, on the verse that has been its anchor: As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him. Over these months we have rooted ourselves in the Word and prayer, watched the fruit of Christ's character grow, settled our identity in Him, learned to stand on His promises, cultivated grateful hearts, and beheld the coming King. And it all comes down to this: having received Christ, we walk in Him, rooted, built up, established, and overflowing with thanksgiving.
Paul's logic is simple and searching: "as you received Christ… so walk in Him." We received Him by grace, through simple faith, bringing nothing but our need. And we are to walk in Him the same way, not graduating to some higher method, not striving to maintain by effort what we entered by grace, but continuing as we began: depending, trusting, receiving, rooted in Him. A tree does not move on from its roots as it grows; it sinks them deeper. So the Christian life is not about leaving Christ behind for something more advanced, but about going ever deeper into Him.
As this year turns, take the whole of Rooted into a single resolve: stay rooted in Him. Sink your roots deeper into Christ in the year to come, walk in Him as you received Him, built up, established, and abounding with thanksgiving. And may the God who began this good work in you carry it on, until you see the King face to face.
Take Into The Day
As the year ends, take this single resolve into the next: to stay rooted in Christ. Choose one way to sink your roots deeper into Him in the coming year, a daily habit of Word or prayer, a renewed trust, a grateful heart, and begin it, walking in Him as you first received Him.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, as I received You, so help me walk in You, rooted, built up, established, and abounding with thanksgiving. Thank You for all You have grown in me through these months. In the year to come, let me sink my roots deeper into You, until at last I see You, my coming King, face to face. Amen.
