God Has Spoken by His Son

The writer of Hebrews sets the Incarnation in the grand sweep of how God has made Himself known. For long ages, God "spoke… by the prophets", in many fragments and many ways, a word here, a vision there, partial and preparatory. But then came the climax of all revelation: "in these last days [He] has spoken to us by His Son." The prophets brought messages from God; the Son is God's message, God's own Word, God speaking not through an intermediary but in Person. In Christ, God did not send another prophet; He came Himself.

This is what makes the coming of Christ the centre of all history. Every prior word was leading here; every prophecy pointed forward to this. When the Son was born, God's fullest and final Word entered the world, for to see Jesus is to see the Father, to hear Jesus is to hear God Himself. The Child in the manger is the eternal Word through whom God made the worlds, now speaking to us in flesh we can see and touch. There is no clearer revelation of God to be waited for; in Christ, God has spoken His last and best Word.
