The psalmist shows us what to do with a promise in a hard season: he takes it back to God in prayer. "Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope." This is not a doubt that God might forget, God forgets nothing, but the language of faith laying hold of a promise and pressing it before God: "You said this; I am holding You to it; do as You have spoken." It is bold, and God invites such boldness. We honour His promises by reminding Him of them in prayer.
And notice where the psalmist found his comfort: "This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life." In the middle of affliction, what comforted him was not a change in his circumstances but a word from God that he could cling to. The promise itself, gripped by faith, became his lifeline, it "gave him life," reviving his fainting spirit when nothing else could. This is what God's promises are for: not decoration for easy days, but a comfort and a life-source in affliction, something solid to hold when everything else is shaking.
Take a promise of God into your affliction today. Remind Him of His word, and let that word be your comfort and your life.
Take Into The Day

Prayer
Lord, remember Your word to me, upon which You have caused me to hope. In my affliction, let Your promise be my comfort and my life. I hold You to what You have spoken, not because You forget, but because Your Word revives my fainting heart. Amen.
