Fully Convinced

Paul holds up Abraham as the model of how to stand on a promise. God had promised him a son in his old age, a promise that, by every natural reckoning, was impossible. Abraham's body was "as good as dead," and Sarah was far past childbearing. Yet Paul says of him: "He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith… being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform." Abraham did not deny the difficulty; he simply trusted that the God who promised was greater than the difficulty.

Here is the secret of standing on a promise when circumstances scream against it: fix your eyes not on the size of the obstacle but on the power of the Promiser. The question Abraham settled was not "Is this possible for nature?", plainly it was not, but "Is God able to perform what He has said?" And of that he was fully convinced. Faith does not pretend the mountain is small; it is convinced that God is bigger. It rests the whole weight of its hope on God's ability to do what He has promised, however impossible it looks.

Is there a promise of God that your circumstances seem to contradict? Do not waver through unbelief. Be fully convinced that what He has promised, He is able to perform.
