This quiet promise sits in the middle of the most sorrowful book in the Bible. Jeremiah is surrounded by ruin and grief, yet even there he affirms: The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. The setting matters. This is not the easy optimism of someone whose life is going well; it is hard-won hope from a man in the depths, who has learned that God remains good to those who wait, even when everything else has collapsed.
The promise links God's goodness to two postures: waiting for Him, and seeking Him. To wait for the Lord is to keep looking to Him, refusing to give up on Him, even through long delay. To seek Him is to pursue Him, to make Him the object of our longing. And to such people, the patient and the seeking, God is good. Not always quick, not always giving what we expected, but good; faithful to reward those who keep waiting and seeking with Himself and His help. The waiting is not wasted; it is the very condition to which His goodness is promised.
If you are waiting on God today, perhaps in a hard place, take heart from a man who waited in the ruins. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him. Keep waiting; keep seeking. His goodness is coming.
Take Into The Day
In whatever you are waiting on God for, renew your waiting and seeking today rather than giving up. Keep looking to Him, keep pursuing Him, and trust the promise that He is good to those who wait. The waiting is not wasted.
Prayer
Lord, even in hard places, You are good to those who wait for You and seek You. Where I am waiting and weary, help me keep looking to You and pursuing You, refusing to give up. Thank You that my waiting is not wasted, for Your goodness is sure. Amen.
