Among all the things this great psalm says God does, He counts the stars, names them all, lifts up the humble, covers the heavens with clouds, it pauses to say this tender thing: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. The God of the galaxies stoops to the bedside of the broken. The same hands that flung the stars into space gently bind up the wounds of a shattered heart. His greatness does not make Him distant from our grief; it means His healing is as vast as His power.
The image of "binding up wounds" is the work of a careful physician or a tender nurse, cleaning, dressing, wrapping a wound so that it can heal. It is patient, gentle, attentive work, not a careless wave of the hand. So God deals with the brokenhearted: not dismissively, not with a quick fix, but with the slow, tender care of one who means to truly heal. This is not always instant; binding up takes time, and healing is a process. But the promise stands, He heals, He binds up. No broken heart is beneath His notice or beyond His care.
If your heart is broken today, bring it to the Physician who heals the brokenhearted. He has not overlooked your wound; He stoops to bind it up.
Take Into The Day
If you are carrying a broken heart, do not hide it from God or assume He is too busy with greater things. Bring the wound to Him today as to a gentle Physician, and let Him begin, in His patient way, to bind it up. Be patient with the healing.
Prayer
Lord, You who count the stars also heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds. You are not too great to stoop to my grief. I bring You my broken places. Bind up my wounds with Your gentle, patient care, and heal my heart in Your time. Amen.
