Peter gives a wonderfully practical instruction for the anxious heart: cast all your care upon Him. The word "cast" is active and decisive, not gently set down, not timidly mention, but throw, hurl, transfer the whole weight onto another. And the scope is total: all your care, not just the manageable worries we are willing to hand over while keeping the heavy ones for ourselves. Every anxiety, large and small, is to be thrown onto God.
And the reason we can do this is the most reassuring part: for He cares for you. We can cast our cares on Him because He cares about us. He is not an indifferent deity who would resent being bothered with our worries, nor a distant power too grand to be concerned with our small troubles. He cares, personally, attentively, tenderly. The God who upholds the universe is mindful of what keeps you awake at night. Because He cares for you, you may unload onto Him every care that you cannot carry.
What are you carrying today that you were never meant to carry alone? Cast it, all of it, onto Him, because He cares for you.
Take Into The Day
Name the cares weighing on you today, and deliberately "cast" each one onto God in prayer, not gently setting it down but handing the whole weight over. Then leave it there, because He cares for you.
Prayer
Father, You invite me to cast all my care upon You, because You care for me. I have been carrying what I was never meant to carry alone. I cast it onto You now, every worry, large and small. Thank You that You care for me. Amen.
