Paul makes this promise to the Philippians who had given generously and sacrificially to support him, even out of their own poverty. To them he says: my God shall supply all your need. Note the precise wording: He will supply all your need, not all your wants, not all your greeds, but everything you genuinely need. God pledges to meet the real needs of His people; He does not pledge to fund every desire or fund a life of luxury. This is a promise of faithful provision, not a guarantee of wealth.

And see the measure of the supply: "according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." God gives not merely out of His riches, as a wealthy man might toss a coin from his abundance, but according to His riches, in proportion to His infinite wealth. The supply is scaled to the supplier, and the supplier owns everything. Whatever your genuine need, it is small beside the riches of God in glory. He is not stretched by your requirements, and He has promised, in Christ, to meet them.

When anxiety about provision rises today, rest on this promise rightly understood: your God will supply all your need, not every want, but every need, according to His glorious riches.

Take Into The Day

When you worry about provision today, distinguish your genuine needs from your wants, and entrust the needs to God's promise to supply them according to His riches. Loosen your grip on the wants, and trust Him with the needs.

Prayer

Father, You promise to supply all my need according to Your riches in glory in Christ. Help me trust You with my true needs, and to hold my wants with an open hand. You own everything and are never stretched by my requirements. I rest in Your faithful provision. Amen.
