I Will Never Leave You

Of all God's promises, perhaps none is more tender, or more needed, than this one: I will never leave you nor forsake you. It is a promise not first of things, but of Himself, not "I will give you this or that," but "I will give you Me; I will be with you and will never withdraw." In the original, the assurance is emphatic almost to the point of overflowing, piling up negatives to leave no possible doubt: never, no, not ever, will I leave or forsake you.
Notice the context in which the writer quotes it: a passage about contentment, about being free from the love of money. The antidote to anxious grasping is the settled knowledge that we have God Himself, who will never leave. We chase after security in possessions and people because we fear being left alone and unprovided for; but the One whose presence is permanent has promised never to abandon us. Whatever or whoever else may leave, and in this life, much will, He never will. His presence is the one constant beneath every changing circumstance.
When you feel alone or abandoned today, hear Him say it Himself: I will never leave you nor forsake you. He is with you, and He always will be.
Take Into The Day
When loneliness or a sense of abandonment presses on you today, hear God's own words: "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Speak them back to yourself, and live the day in the company of the One who is always present.
Prayer
Lord, You Yourself have said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." When I feel alone or abandoned, remind me that Your presence is the one constant beneath all my changing circumstances. Thank You that You are with me now, and always will be. Amen.
