Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

The writer of Hebrews gives both a command and the reason behind it. The command: hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, keep gripping the promise, do not let go, do not waver back and forth between believing and doubting. And the reason that makes such steadfastness possible: He who promised is faithful. Our holding fast does not rest on our own strength of grip, but on the faithfulness of the One who made the promise.
This is crucial, because holding fast is hard. Between the promise and its fulfilment there is often a long, testing gap, full of reasons to waver, delay, disappointment, contrary circumstances, the whispers of doubt. In that gap, we are tempted to loosen our grip and quietly give up hope. But Hebrews fixes our eyes not on the difficulty of holding on but on the reliability of the One we are holding to. He who promised is faithful. Because His faithfulness does not waver, we can hold fast without wavering. We grip the promise because we are gripped by a faithful God.
Is there a promise you have been wavering over? Hold it fast today, without wavering, not because you are strong, but because He who promised is faithful.
Take Into The Day
Identify a promise of God you have been wavering over, half-believing, half-letting-go. Today, grip it firmly and refuse to waver, fixing your eyes not on your weak hold but on the faithfulness of the One who made it.
Prayer
Father, help me hold fast the confession of my hope without wavering, for You who promised are faithful. When the gap between promise and fulfilment tempts me to let go, steady my grip by Your unwavering faithfulness. I hold fast to You today. Amen.
