God Cannot Lie

Balaam, of all people, was made to speak this truth: God is not a man, that He should lie. Here is the deepest ground of every promise's reliability, the very nature of God. People lie, and even when they do not intend to, they fail; we make promises in good faith and then circumstances, weakness, or death prevent us keeping them. But God is not like us. He cannot lie, cannot change His mind on a whim, cannot be prevented from doing what He has said. "Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"
This lifts God's promises out of the category of human promises entirely. When a person promises, we hope they will keep it; we know they might not. When God promises, the only question is whether He has truly said it, for if He has, it is as good as done. His word and His deed are never separated by a gap of unreliability. What God says, He does; what He speaks, He makes good. To doubt a clear promise of God is, in effect, to call the God who cannot lie a liar.
Whatever God has plainly said, build on it without hesitation. He is not a man, that He should lie.
Take Into The Day
When doubt whispers today, "Will God really come through?", answer it with His nature: God is not a man, that He should lie. Treat His clear promise as already as good as done, and act on it with confidence.
Prayer
Lord, You are not a man, that You should lie, nor that You should fail to do what You have said. Forgive me for doubting Your Word as though You were unreliable like me. What You have spoken, You will make good. I build today on Your unbreakable truth. Amen.
