Peter describes God's promises with two words worth pausing over: exceedingly great and precious. They are great, vast in scope, weighty in significance, more than able to meet our largest needs. And they are precious, valuable, to be treasured, like jewels we would be foolish to leave unused in a drawer. God has not given us a few small assurances; He has lavished upon us exceedingly great and precious promises, a treasury of His own pledged Word.

And notice their purpose: "that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature." The promises are not merely comforts for hard days; they are the means by which God transforms us, drawing us into His own life and likeness. As we lay hold of His promises and live by them, we are changed, made more like Him, lifted above "the corruption that is in the world." To neglect the promises, then, is not only to forfeit comfort but to stall our transformation. They are given to make us partakers of God Himself.

Treat God's promises this month as the treasure they are. Take them out, examine them, live on them, they are exceedingly great and precious.

Take Into The Day

Treat God's promises today as treasure, not as words to skim past. When you read one in Scripture, stop and handle it like a jewel, turning it over, considering its worth, and putting it to use. They are exceedingly great and precious.

Prayer

Father, You have given me exceedingly great and precious promises, a treasury of Your pledged Word. Forgive me for leaving such riches unused. Help me treasure Your promises, live by them, and through them be made more like You. Amen.
