Nothing Can Separate Us

Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life… nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Paul reaches the summit of his great chapter, and it is a declaration of unbreakable love. He is "persuaded", not merely hopeful, but settled and certain, that nothing in all of existence can separate us from the love of God in Christ. He runs through the list of everything we might fear: death and life, angels and powers, things present and things to come, height and depth, and then, to leave no gap, "any other created thing." The whole created universe is ransacked for a force strong enough to cut us off from God's love, and none is found.
This is the bedrock under our entire identity in Christ. Every truth this month has rested on the love of God, He chose us, adopted us, forgave us, accepted us, all out of love, and here Paul assures us that this love cannot be lost. Notice it is the love "which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Because our security is in Christ, and Christ is unchanging and victorious, the love that holds us is as secure as He is. Your worst day, your deepest failure, your darkest fear, none of it can separate you from the love of God in Christ.
Whatever you face today, you face it held by a love that nothing can break. Rest there.
Take Into The Day
Name the thing you most fear could separate you from God, a failure, a loss, the future, death itself. Then answer it with Paul's certainty: not even that can separate you from God's love in Christ. Rest today in unbreakable love.
Prayer
Father, I am persuaded that nothing, not death, not life, not my worst failure, not anything in all creation, can separate me from Your love in Christ Jesus. When fear says otherwise, settle my heart in this certainty. Thank You that Your love holds me unbreakably. Amen.
