Paul describes the believer's life with a striking image: "your life is hidden with Christ in God." Our truest life, the new life we have received, is not on public display, not dependent on visible success, not exposed to the world's ability to damage it. It is hidden, tucked safely away "with Christ in God," in the most secure location in the universe. To get at your real life, one would have to get past Christ and past God Himself.

This is a profound source of security and peace. So much of our anxiety comes from feeling exposed, that our worth is on the line in every performance, that our life could be ruined by the next failure or loss or opinion. But Paul says the believer's deepest life is not out there to be won or lost; it is hidden, safe, beyond the reach of all that threatens it. The storms may batter the surface, but the real life is sheltered with Christ in God. And what is hidden now will one day be revealed: "when Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory."

Whatever feels exposed and fragile today, your true life is safe. It is hidden with Christ in God.

When you feel exposed and fragile today, your worth seemingly on the line, remember that your true life is hidden with Christ in God, beyond the reach of what threatens it. Let the storms batter the surface; the real life is safe.

Prayer

Father, my true life is hidden with Christ in You, safe in the most secure place there is. When I feel exposed and fragile, remind me that what matters most cannot be touched. Thank You that my life is sheltered in You, awaiting the day of glory. Amen.
