Galatians 5:1
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Freedom is one of the great gifts of our identity in Christ, and Paul charges us to guard it: "Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free." We have been set free, free from the law's condemnation, free from the impossible burden of earning God's favour, free from the slavery of sin. And Paul's concern is that, having been freed, we not slide back: "do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."
That warning is needed, because there is a strange pull in the human heart back toward slavery. Set free by grace, we drift back into trying to earn what we already have; released from sin, we return to its chains as though we were still bound. Paul pictures it as a freed prisoner voluntarily putting the yoke back on his own shoulders. But Christ did not free us so that we could re-enter bondage; He freed us for freedom, to live as the liberated children of God, no longer slaves to performance or to sin.
Christ has made you free. Do not pick up the old yoke today. Stand fast in your liberty, and live as a free person in Him.
Take Into The Day
Notice today where you are tempted to put the old yoke back on, slipping into earning God's favour, or back under a sin's control. Stand fast in your freedom instead, and refuse the bondage Christ has freed you from.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You have set me free, from condemnation, from earning, from the slavery of sin. Help me stand fast in that liberty today and not slide back under the old yoke. Thank You for the freedom You bought for me; let me live as a free child of God. Amen.
