1 Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people…
, 1 Peter 2:9

Tap any Scripture reference to read and listen.

Peter heaps up titles, and each one was once reserved for a privileged few but now belongs to every believer in Christ. A chosen generation, selected by God. A royal priesthood, both kings and priests, with access to God and authority in His service. A holy nation, set apart for Him. His own special people, literally, a people for God's own possession, treasured by Him. These are not titles we aspire to earn; Peter says they are what we already are in Christ.

Consider especially "a royal priesthood." Under the old covenant, priesthood was limited to one tribe, and kingship to one line. Now, in Christ, every believer is brought near as a priest, able to approach God directly, to offer spiritual sacrifices, to intercede for others, and dignified as royalty, belonging to the King. There is no spiritual elite in the family of God; the humblest believer shares this royal, priestly identity. You do not need a mediator to reach God; in Christ, you yourself have been made a priest.

You are not a spiritual second-class citizen. You are chosen, royal, holy, treasured. Carry yourself today as who God says you are.

Take Into The Day

Today, exercise your priesthood: come to God directly without needing any human mediator, and intercede for someone who needs prayer. Carry yourself as one who is chosen, royal, and treasured by God, not a second-class believer.

Prayer

Father, in Christ I am part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, Your own treasured possession. Thank You that I may come to You directly as a priest, and that I belong to You as royalty. Let me live today as who You say I am. Amen.
