1 Corinthians 6:19
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

Paul asks a question that should reorder how we see ourselves: "do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit?" In the old covenant, God's presence dwelt in a temple of stone, and only the high priest could enter the holiest place, once a year, with great fear. Now, astonishingly, the dwelling place of God has moved, into the bodies of ordinary believers. The Holy Spirit, the very presence of God, lives in you. You are a walking temple.
This dignifies the believer beyond all measure, and it also calls us to honour what God has chosen to inhabit. "You are not your own," Paul adds, we belong to the God who dwells in us and bought us. This shapes how we treat our bodies and our lives: not as our own private property to do with as we please, but as a sanctuary where God Himself has taken up residence. The presence we long to feel in worship is not far away in some holy building; it is within.
You carry the presence of God with you everywhere today. Live, and even treat your own body, as the temple it has become.
Take Into The Day
Live today aware that you carry the very presence of God within you, you are His temple. Let that awareness shape one choice about how you treat your body or your time, honouring the One who dwells in you.
Prayer
Father, my body is a temple of Your Holy Spirit, who lives in me; I am not my own, for You have bought me. Thank You that I carry Your presence everywhere. Help me honour the sanctuary You have made me, and live aware that You dwell within. Amen.
