Paul says something that runs directly against the grain of our restless, striving hearts: you are complete in Him. Not you will be complete one day, if you try hard enough and add enough to yourself, but you are complete, now, in Christ. The word means full, lacking nothing, brought to wholeness. Everything you need for a full standing before God, you already possess in Him. There is nothing to add to make you more acceptable, more loved, more secure.
We spend so much of life feeling incomplete, chasing the next achievement, the next approval, the next experience that will finally make us feel whole. The world is built on that ache, selling us a thousand things to fill it. But to those in Christ, Paul says the ache is already answered. In Him who is "the head of all principality and power", supreme over everything, you are complete. You are not a half-finished person waiting for the missing piece; in Christ, the missing piece has been found.
Stop trying to complete yourself today. Rest in the completeness you already have in Him.
Take Into The Day
Catch yourself today reaching for the next thing to finally feel whole, an achievement, an approval, a possession. Each time, pause and rest in the truth: "I am complete in Him." Let that quiet the restless ache.
Prayer
Lord, You tell me I am complete in Christ, lacking nothing for my standing before You. Forgive my restless chasing after things to make me whole. Thank You that in Him the ache is already answered. Let me rest today in my completeness in You. Amen.
