…you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold… but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Peter wants us to know the price of our redemption, because the price reveals the worth. We were redeemed, the word means bought out of slavery, ransomed, set free by a payment. And the payment was not "corruptible things, like silver or gold," however precious those seem to us. It was something infinitely greater: "the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot." The life of the sinless Son of God was the ransom for your freedom.

Consider what this says about your value. We measure worth by what someone is willing to pay, and God was willing to pay for you with the blood of His own Son. You may feel worthless; you may have been treated as worthless by others; but heaven's valuation is fixed by the price paid, and that price was the blood of Christ. You were not cheap to redeem. You were bought at the highest cost in the universe.

When the world or your own heart tells you that you are worth little, remember what your freedom cost. You were redeemed by the precious blood of Christ.

Take Into The Day

When you feel worthless today, recall the price of your redemption: not silver or gold, but the precious blood of Christ. Let the cost He paid silence the lie that you are worth little. You were bought at the highest price.

Prayer

Lord, You redeemed me not with silver or gold but with the precious blood of Christ, the spotless Lamb. When I feel worthless, let the price You paid remind me of my worth in Your sight. Thank You for ransoming me at such a cost. Amen.
