Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering.

Paul tells us to put on kindness, as one puts on a garment in the morning. It is a deliberate, daily act of dressing the soul. We do not drift into kindness by accident; we choose it, we clothe ourselves in it, we decide before the day begins what character we will wear into our encounters. And the motive is tucked into the address: do this "as the elect of God, holy and beloved." Because we are deeply loved and chosen by God, we can afford to be kind.
Kindness is love with its sleeves rolled up, love made warm and practical in the small interactions of ordinary life. It is the gentle tone instead of the sharp one, the encouraging word, the small consideration, the willingness to make someone's day a little easier rather than a little harder. It costs little and means much. The world is often a hard, brusque, transactional place; the kind person brings a different climate wherever they go.
Decide now, before the day's encounters begin, to wear kindness. Put it on like a coat, and do not take it off.
Take Into The Day
Consciously "put on" kindness this morning as a chosen garment. Then look for small, practical ways to be kind in each encounter, a warm tone, an encouraging word, a small consideration that makes someone's day easier.
Prayer
Lord, as one chosen and beloved by You, I choose to put on kindness today. Clothe my words and manner with it. Help me to bring warmth and gentleness into every encounter, making others' days easier rather than harder, for Your sake. Amen.
