Fruit of the Spirit

Jesus is honest about two things in one sentence, and we need both. First, the hard truth: "In the world you will have tribulation." He does not promise His followers a trouble-free life; He promises the opposite, that trouble is certain. Any peace He offers is not the absence of storms. But second, the greater truth: "In Me you may have peace… I have overcome the world." The peace He gives is found in Him, in the middle of the trouble, not instead of it.

This is crucial, because we often assume that if we had real peace, our problems would disappear. Jesus teaches a deeper peace, one that holds while the tribulation rages, because it rests not on calm circumstances but on a victorious Christ. "Be of good cheer," He says, even facing the cross, "I have overcome the world." The storm is real, but it is a defeated thing; the One in the boat with you has already won. That is why you can have peace in the middle of it.

Do not wait for the storm to pass to find peace. Find it now, in the Christ who has overcome.

Take Into The Day

Stop waiting for your circumstances to calm before you seek peace. In the middle of today's trouble, turn to Christ who has overcome the world, and receive His peace now, not instead of the storm, but within it.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You promised trouble in this world but peace in You. When the storm rages today, let me not wait for calm to find peace. You have overcome the world; give me Your peace in the very middle of the trouble. I take heart in You. Amen.
