Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews invites us to do something that should, by rights, be terrifying: to approach the throne of God Himself. And yet we are told to come boldly, with confidence, freely, without cringing. The reason lies in the verses just before: our great High Priest, Jesus, has been tempted as we are, yet without sin, and He has opened the way. The throne we approach is not first a throne of judgement but a throne of grace.

This changes everything about how we pray. We come to God not as a defendant creeping before a hostile judge, but as children running to a Father who is glad to receive them. We come boldly, not because we are worthy, but because grace has made us welcome. And we come to find exactly two things: mercy for our failures, and grace to help in time of need. Whatever has gone wrong, there is mercy. Whatever we now face, there is timely grace. Both are at the throne, and both are available the moment we come.

Approach God today with confidence, not cringing. Bring both your failures, for mercy, and your present need, for grace to help. Come boldly to the throne of grace, because Jesus has made you welcome there.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that through Jesus I may come boldly to Your throne of grace. I come now, not because I am worthy, but because grace has made me welcome. Grant me mercy for my failures and grace to help in my time of need. Amen.
