We tend to think of the Bible as a book we examine. Hebrews turns it around: the Word is alive, and it examines us. It is "living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit," able to discern "the thoughts and intents of the heart." You open the Word to read it, and discover it is reading you.

This is why Scripture unsettles before it heals. A living blade cuts. There are mornings the verse seems to know exactly where you are hiding, naming the resentment you had dressed up as discernment, the fear you had called wisdom. That is not the text being harsh; that is the text being alive. A dead book leaves you as it found you. A living Word performs surgery.

So do not flinch from the cut. The same blade that exposes is the one that heals, because the One who wields it loves you. Let the Word search you today, and trust the hand that holds it.

Take Into The Day

As you read today, let the Word read you. When a verse touches a nerve, do not turn the page quickly, stay, and let it name what it has found. Confess it, and let the living Word do its healing work.

Prayer

Lord, Your Word is living and powerful, and it knows me better than I know myself. Do not let me hide from it. Cut away what must go, expose what I have buried, and heal me by the same blade. I trust the hand that holds it. Amen.
