The blessed man of is marked not first by what he avoids but by what he loves. His delight is in the law of the Lord. That word "delight" matters. He does not meditate on Scripture as a grim duty, gritting his teeth through a daily quota. He returns to it the way you return to something you enjoy, day and night, not because he must, but because he wants to.

This is the difference between reading the Bible and feeding on it. Duty reads a chapter and ticks a box. Delight lingers, chews, turns a verse over through the day. And the psalm promises that such a person becomes "like a tree planted by the rivers of water", fruitful, unshaken, green even in drought. The fruit grows from the delight, and the delight grows from drawing near often enough to taste that the Word is good.

If delight feels distant, do not fake it; ask for it. God is glad to give a hunger for His Word to those who ask.

Take Into The Day

Choose one verse this morning and carry it like a sweet you keep returning to, turning it over at the kettle, in the car, before sleep. Let meditation be enjoyment, not duty, today.

Prayer

Lord, make Your Word my delight and not merely my duty. Give me an appetite for Scripture that draws me back day and night. Plant me by Your streams, that I may be fruitful and unshaken. Amen.
