Hagar, alone and desperate in the wilderness, gives a profound title to God: 'El Roi,' the God who sees. This wasn't a philosophical statement, but a deeply personal revelation born from her vulnerable circumstance. It reminds us that no situation, no sorrow, no struggle is hidden from His gaze. He not only observes our plight but actively 'looks after' us, intervening with His care. When we feel overlooked, forgotten, or inconsequential, this passage assures us that the Creator of the universe is intimately aware of our individual story and lovingly attentive to our needs. We are seen and known by God.
Prayer
El Roi, thank you for being the God who sees me in my every circumstance. Help me to trust that you are always looking after me, even when I feel alone or forgotten.
