Paul's words are a logical and practical extension of the Christian life. If our spiritual birth and ongoing existence are 'by the Spirit,' then our daily walk should reflect this reality. 'Keeping in step' suggests a conscious, continuous alignment of our thoughts, actions, and attitudes with the Holy Spirit's guidance. It's an active partnership, like marching in rhythm with a leader, rather than passively being dragged along. This requires attentiveness, discernment, and a willingness to surrender our own impulses. When we walk in step with the Spirit, our lives will increasingly manifest His fruit and power, rather than the works of the flesh.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, since I live by You, grant me the wisdom and discipline to keep in step with Your leading today. Guide my thoughts, words, and actions.
