Hebrews 12:1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

The Christian life is often described as a race, not a sprint. This imagery, familiar to ancient readers, conveys effort, discipline, and perseverance. We are to 'lay aside every weight', anything, even good things, that hinder our progress, and especially 'sin which clings so closely.' The motivation? A 'great cloud of witnesses', the faithful who have gone before us, cheering us on, and, ultimately, Christ Himself, the author and perfecter of our faith. This is a call to intentional living, shedding distractions and focusing our gaze on the finish line, empowered by divine grace to run with endurance.
Prayer
Lord, help me to lay aside every weight and sin that hinders my walk with You. Strengthen me to run this race with endurance, keeping my eyes fixed on Jesus.
