This verse is the core of the Gospel's wondrous exchange. Jesus, utterly blameless, took on the entirety of our sin, not in feeling its guilt, but in bearing its penalty on the cross. In return, His perfect righteousness is credited to us. We don't achieve righteousness through our own efforts or good deeds; it's a gift freely given through faith in Christ. This isn't just a legal declaration, but a new identity. We stand before God, not in our own tattered garments, but clothed in the spotless perfection of His Son. This truth should humble us, fill us with gratitude, and empower us to live lives reflecting the new identity we have in Him.
Prayer
Lord God, I am awestruck by the great exchange made in Christ. Thank You for making Him sin for me, that I might be clothed in Your righteousness. May I live today in the freedom and gratitude of this truth.
